GERMANY: Bavarian pyrolysis plant to close

Müllpyrolyseanlage Burgau, the 2.2MWe waste pyrolysis plant in Günzburg, Bavaria, is to be shut down by the end of 2015. The local council, its owners and operator, considers the operations and maintainance costs to be too high for local waste fee payers to bear. Char disposal is also problematic. Opened in 1984, the plant handles around 38,000 tonnes / year of waste. Most of this is municipal, with some commercial waste and sewage sludge. Waste heat is used by a horticultural greenhouse.
