Construction of the EU-funded Revawaste project will begin later this month in the Tarragona village of Botarell.
The pilot-scale plant will handle up to 10,000 tonnes of materials including manure, RDF and food waste through an integrated process.
Manure and food waste will be digested, while biomass and non-recyclable wastes will be subjected to pyrolysis. Biogas and syngas from the two processes will fuel a CHP engine.
Last year, EWB reported that work would start last November and be operational in the spring. But design issues appear to have held up the project.
