AEB has said it is working with Argent Energy and the Port of Amsterdam on a new steam supply deal.
Argent Energy hopes to use the steam in its biofuel production process and replace its own fossil fuel-sourced steam production by linking to AEB’s Amsterdam-based EfW facilities.
A feasibility study is expected to be completed before the summer, which will determine whether the idea can be taken forward. If it is, a pipeline would be completed by 2021 and Port of Amsterdam and AEB would also offer the steam to other companies.
AEB operates six grate lines at two sites in Westpoort, north-west of Amsterdam: the Afvalenergiecentrale, which opened in 1993; and Hoogrendement Centrale, built in 2007. Together the lines can process about 1.4Mt/yr of waste.
